Government extended Pubudu Dassanayake Nepali Cricket coach contract who took Nepal Cricket Team to International level.
Nepal government decided to extend the Pubudu Dassanayake Nepali national cricket’s team’s coach for a year.
Purshottam Paudel, Minister for Sports confirmed that Pubudu Dassanayake will coach Nepal’s cricket team for one more year. His contract has been renewed today by government after Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) decided that it cannot afford cricket coach.
The initiative move made by the Government to extend Pubudu’s contract term came after CAN expressed it cannot extended due to lack of funds. According to the minister, the government will continue to support the national cricket governing body until its circumstances improved. He said, “If CAN cannot pay him, the government will pay. But the government will not let Nepal’s cricket die.”
Sri Lanka born Canadian, Pubudu Dassanayake had left Nepal in early June after CAN’s uncertainty to extend his contract. Cricket Association Nepal (CAN) appointed him as the coach of National team in August 23, 2011.
Even the Nepal cricket team skipper Paras Khadka threatened yesterday to leave the sport if the Cricket Association of Nepal did not extend Pubudu’s contract. Yesterday Paras wrote on his Facebook “Good evening family, friends, fans and everyone. If we want to take Nepali cricket further, we need (coach) Pubudu Dassanayake at any cost and if that does not happen then I will also not be able to continue playing for Nepal.” “Would like to thank everyone for the constant support during all the ups and downs.”
Earlier today even the financial minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat tweeted on his twitter that the government would not want to lose Dassanayke “Who has worked hard to raise Nepal’s cricket statue.”
